ASSISTANT SCIENTIST - MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

SUMMARY

Myriant Corp. is looking for a talented, energetic, highly motivated Assistant Scientist to join our Molecular Biology Department in Woburn, MA, for work on engineering bacteria and yeast for the production of specialty chemicals. A Bachelor's degree is required. Two or more years of laboratory experience in gene cloning is preferred.  A Bachelor's degree is required. Two or more years of laboratory experience in gene cloning is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

§  Conduct shake flask and Fleaker (small anaerobic flasks with pH control) evaluations of bacteria and yeast strains

§  Conduct gene cloning and plasmid construction experiments with bacteria and yeast

§  Construct new genetically engineered strains of bacteria and yeast


§  Assist supervisor with laboratory tasks

§  Construct tables and graphs of data

§  Record all data in laboratory notebooks

§  Write summaries of research activities

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

§  BA, BS, MA, or MS in Molecular Biology or related field.  Course work should include inorganic and organic chemistry and molecular biology or genetics.

§  Two or more years of laboratory experience in genetic engineering.

EQUIPMENT USED

§  Centrifuges, PCR machine, computers, gel electrophoresis equipment, electroporator, Fleakers, autoclaves, microscopes
